Overview

Jason is a member of the Constangy Cyber Team. He provides legal counsel and representation on a variety of data privacy issues, including the identification of protected-data, application of statutory requirements for specific types of data and industries, facilitation of security measures and access controls for the acquisition, processing, and maintenance of protected-data, risk management, and lawful response and mandatory notifications for data leaks or breaches. Jason assists clients with advice on the legal aspects of data breaches or data loss due to cyber threats such as email exploitation, network or host intrusions, ransomware incidents, blackmail schemes, and other types of cyberattacks. As a technology-driven attorney, Jason understands the urgency and scope of his clients’ needs and can help obtain services for threat mitigation, prevention, and forensic examination, restore networks and systems, and identify malicious acts and actors. Jason holds the Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) credential from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).

Jason previously served as a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for twenty years. During his time in the field, Jason gained valuable insights on the intrusion methods and motivations of cybercriminals and the importance of forensic examinations, evidence preservation, and proactive network protections. While working as a Program Manager at the FBI’s Operational Technology Division, Jason was promoted to Assistant Section Chief and supervised one the FBI’s largest cyber sections, which employed over 400 people and operated on a budget of $100 million. In this role, Jason became very familiar with hardware and software development, circuit acquisition, and network architecture plans, implementation, and maintenance. He learned how to overcome the technical challenges facing network infrastructures. Jason directly managed personnel in charge of cybersecurity. He reviewed vulnerabilities scans, attended tabletop exercises, and directed resources to address potential threats. He was also responsible for his section’s cybersecurity training and understands the difficulties of establishing a “security conscious” culture at the workplace. As a former federal employee with Top Secret clearance, Jason is comfortable working with government agencies or commercial vendors with government contracts.
