Constangy attorney Amanda Novak has been awarded the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Rada Distinguished Alumni Award. The award recognizes outstanding alumni of the past 20 years who have gone on to achieve professional distinction and make a difference through humanitarian activities.
Amanda, a member of the Constangy Cyber Team, focuses her practice on privacy and cybersecurity matters. She is a Certified Information Privacy Professional in U.S. (CIPP/US) and European law (CIPP/E) as well as an Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
Amanda advises clients across diverse sectors on security incident response by coordinating digital forensics and remediation, analyzing obligations under state, federal, and international data breach notification statutes, facilitating the fulfillment of consumer, contractual, and regulatory notification obligations, and responding to inquiries from government agencies, regulators, and the media.
During law school, Amanda was an editor of the Minnesota Law Review, where she wrote on the intersection of artificial intelligence and the law. She has since published articles in academic journals on issues pertaining to international law, emerging technologies, and peace and security.
Amanda is very active in her local and legal community. She has provided pro bono legal services to asylum seekers and refugees and has been involved in international advocacy, conflict research, and reports advancing human rights, international humanitarian law, and international criminal law through her work with various human rights organizations. Amanda has also provided legal training on the laws of armed conflict/international humanitarian law as a volunteer instructor for the American Red Cross. She is a board member of World Without Genocide, where she has given numerous presentations on human rights issues, as well as The Raptor Center, where she has assisted with the rehabilitation of injured raptors.
