ATLANTA –March 27, 2019 – National labor and employment law firm Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete, LLP is awarding its 2018-2019 Excellence in Work-Life Balance Award to two companies this year – the Brown & Crouppen Law Firm in St. Louis, Missouri and Lakeland Regional Health in Lakeland, Florida.

Constangy’s program recognizes companies and nonprofit organizations that actively initiate and create environments conducive to work-life balance.

Through applications such as flexible work arrangements, employee wellness programs, telecommuting and job-sharing, work-life balance efforts can help employees feel truly connected to their companies, fostering loyalty, mutual respect and a positive work environment.

Among larger organizations, Lakeland Regional Health stood out for its creative approach to flexible work schedules, which allow opportunities for summertime leave and “phased-in retirement.” The hospital and physician network also provides a wide range of concierge services and wellness and programs such as onsite car washes, free healthy cooking classes and gym memberships, as well as educational seminars on issues such as smoking cessation, healthy sleep habits and financial wellness.

“We create an environment that encourages and teaches team members to reach that integral balance between their work and personal lives,” said Scott Dimmick, Lakeland Regional Health Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. “We align our programs around the needs of the organization and our workforce, focusing on evidence-based management approaches. As a result, our employee satisfaction levels continue to increase and our turnover rate has dramatically decreased.”

The St. Louis law firm of Brown and Crouppen was recognized as a leader in work-life balance among smaller organizations. Recognizing the need for flexibility, Brown and Crouppen created a “two-hour rule” where an employee can take two hours off and make it up within the pay period. The 70 attorneys and staff members also benefit from a holistic wellness program that includes relaxation rooms where employees can take short workday breaks with quiet music, aromatherapy and massage chairs.

“A career at Brown and Crouppen means taking part in rewarding and meaningful work, in an empowering environment. Beyond practicing law, we value connecting with and giving back to our community in meaningful ways, including sponsoring employee participation in more than 35 charitable events each year,” said Managing Partner Ed Herman. “At Brown and Crouppen, work-life balance is not only a part of our office culture, but a part of our benefits package. Employees can utilize: flex time, a comprehensive wellness program, generous vacation time, sick days, maternity leave, pet bereavement leave, and opportunities to earn personal days via our book club or community involvement incentives.”

The independent judge for this year’s Work-Life Balance Award program was Tracy LaLonde, Founder of Xaphes LLC, which helps lawyers and other professionals to become better business developers and public speakers.

Brown and Crouppen Law Firm and Lakeland Regional Health will each receive a commemorative crystal trophy and $1,000 donation to their charities of choice, the Missouri Network for Opiate Reform and Recovery and the Lakeland Regional Health Foundation.
