Senior Counsel John Duke authored an op-ed for the Austin Business Journal on why the city's proposed sick leave law will likely be struck down in court
The ordinance mandates that private employers with more than 15 employees allow their workers to accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked in Austin, up to 64 hours per year. Small businesses with 15 or fewer employees could accrue up to 48 hours. The ordinance is scheduled to go into effect on Oct. 1 for employers with six or more employees, and Oct. 1, 2020, for employers with five or fewer employees.
