Overview

Maria centers her practice on data breaches, cybersecurity incidents and privacy violations. She guides clients on navigating the complex process of responding to the loss, theft or compromise of protected and confidential information. Maria also advises clients on U.S. data protection law and GDPR compliance and assists clients with risk management. She has extensive experience counseling domestic and foreign insurance carriers and regularly assists and defends companies concerning high exposure claims and regulatory matters arising from fraud, embezzlement, and other criminal misconduct.

Through her experience, Maria brings unique insight and critical exposure to the data and privacy concerns affecting financial services firms. Being a front line of risk veteran, Maria stays abreast of the growing threat of cybersecurity attacks and extortion, including ransomware. She has handled numerous cases resulting from data security and privacy liability events, including employee data theft.

Maria also handled professional liability matters with a focus on accounting firms, including the Big Four firms. She’s directed high profile litigation, arbitrations, and regulatory matters centered on fraud, conspiracy, malpractice, and securities violations. Parallel to her litigation experience, Maria routinely managed SEC and DOJ investigations and enforcement proceedings and recently consulted with the U.S. Small Business Administration regarding fraud risk factors affecting loans issued during the COVID 19 pandemic.
